Shaw is committed to true sustainability through a process we call cradle-to-cradle. What does that mean?
You're probably familiar with how natural products can decompose and return to the earth in an endless cycle of renewal.Cradle-to-Cradle production means we acheive the same cycle of renewal with synthetic products.
The opposite is often referred to as "cradle to grave", which is how products are conventionally manufactured. Raw materials are taken from the earth, made into some product, and eventually sent to overflowing landfills. This cycle results in tremendous waste and negative consequences for the environment. Is there anything we can do to reverse the cycle? The answer is yes.
At Shaw's revolutionary Evergreen Nylon Recycling facility in Augusta,Georgia, we are recycling Nylon 6 carpets back into the raw material that we use to make new carpets.
Take a look at the diagram of how we're keeping Nylon 6 carpet out of landfills
Old carpet is received at collection centers across the country, brought to the Evergreen Nylon Recycling facility, and recycled back to it's original material--the building block for nylon fiber. Then we use that fiber to make beautiful new products for your home--carpets that are as soft, beautiful, and durable as before.
Evergreen recycling is the kind of endless cycle we call cradle-to-cradle, and Shaw believes it is the path to true sustainability
